TENANT FEATURE: SMALL WONDER - AFFORDABLE YET HIGH-QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Small Wonder believes in developing pre-schoolers through incorporating best practices from over 25 years of experience in the early childhood field in Singapore. It also believes that learning should be fun, enjoyable, and discovered by children themselves with confidence, all in an environment that children look forward to going every day. Recently opening its doors in 6 Serangoon North, it is their largest facility to date. We invited Ms Anne Fernandis, Principal of Small Wonder Serangoon North with 28 years of experience, to talk about the newly opened childcare centre.

Q: Tell us more about your company.
Anne: The Small Wonder brand was first established in 1989 and consolidated into Learning Vision in 1996. In the 2000s, Learning Vision became part of Busy Bees Singapore (then known as Knowledge Universe Singapore). In tandem with the government’s continued push for affordable yet high-quality early childhood education curriculum, Busy Bees Singapore reintroduced Small Wonder in July 2014, opening three preschools in less than 1 year.
Grounded in the holistic development of a child, Small Wonder’s curriculum and well-resourced environment capitalises on children’s natural inquisitiveness. Each programme level implements a comprehensive combination of child-directed, teacher-directed and activity-based learning, supporting a child’s character development and citizenship education. Hence, children develop a sense of wonder and become more responsible, caring and contributing members of the community.

Q: What are the product and/or services your company provides?
Anne: With more than 25 years of experience in early childhood education, Busy Bees extends our trusted expertise, established teaching standards and innovative learning methods from four heritage preschool brands (Brighton Montessori, Learning Vision, Odyssey The Global Preschool and Pat’s Schoolhouse) to Small Wonder.
Teaching staff are provided with tailored training and development opportunities, regular Professional Development Programmes, international study tours, and get to network with over 1,000 colleagues in Singapore to ensure they are kept up-to-date with global best practices in curriculum and learning technologies.
Q: Why did your company make the decision to move to our building in 6 Serangoon North?
Anne: Every child deserves a fair opportunity in society. Given the essential nature of preschool services for families and working parents in Singapore, we are guided by our belief that education is a social ladder to future success.
Small Wonder opened its fourth preschool at 6 Serangoon North, our largest so far at over 19,000 square feet, to address rising demands for affordable quality childcare in the neighbourhood. The first of our centres to be located out of the HDB void decks, Small Wonder Serangoon North has a capacity close to that of its three fully-subscribed centres at Punggol, Yishun and Anchorvale combined, boasting a sprawling indoor playground of over 1,100 square feet.
